Identification
50-56cm. Large eared owl, orange eyes, tawny-buff mottled with black, paler below with black streaks.
Distribution
Taxonomy
Sometimes considered a subspecies of Eurasian Eagle-Owl Bubo bubo.
Habitat
Rocky hills, wooded scrub, ravines, rocky semi-desert old mango orchards.
Behaviour
Its diet includes mainly rodents but also birds, reptiles, frogs, crabs and large invertebrates.
Its nest is a scrape on a rock ledge, cliff or on the ground. 2-5 eggs are incubated for about 35 days.
Its call is a deep, resonant, single pitched double noted hoot.
