Erythrura regia

Shot in Vanuatu (New Hebrides). This bird is a subadult.

Taxonomy

By some authorities considered a race of cyaneovirens. There is much confusion with identifying races of this species as the young take up to 20 months to reach full adult plumage with several intermediate colour stages. This bird is of regia group.

Habitat

Primary and secondary rainforest

Behaviour

Staple diet consists of small figs. I observed one bird picking small insects from leaves and another nibbling off a small flower from a tree.
