Identification

Short straight black bill and medium length black legs. Pale grey above and white underneath, and a black mark at its shoulder.

Distribution

Arctic, but a summer visitor to Britain.

Taxonomy

Habitat

Coasts.

Behaviour

The diet includes small marine worms, crustaceans and molluscs.

3-4 eggs are laid in a ground scrape.
