Sylvia melanocephala

Identification

Male - grey back, white underparts, black head, white throat and red eyes. Female- mainly brown above and buff below, with a grey head.

Distribution

Europe and Asia.

Taxonomy

Habitat

Open country and cultivation.

Behaviour

It builds its nest in low shrub or brambles, and 3-6 eggs are laid.

The diet includes insects, but it will also take berries and other soft fruit.
