Taxonomy

Calamanthus cautus has four subspecies:

  • C. c. macrorhyncha
  • Central New South Wales
  • C. c. cauta
  • Eyre Peninsula and Flinders Ranges to north-western Victoria and adjacent New South Wales
  • C. c. halmaturina
  • Kangaroo Island (South Australia)
  • C. c. whitlocki
  • South-central Western Australia

Habitat

Shrubby vegetation.

Behaviour

Forage in the shade of dense vegetation, but are not particularly shy, despite the common name.
