Identification

Black and white plumage.

Distribution

Philippines.

Taxonomy

Two subspecies recognized which are sometimes accepted as full species:

  • C. a. argentatus in the southern Philippines (Basilan, Dinagat and Mindanao) - Southern Silvery Kingfisher
  • C. a. flumenicolus in the northern Philippines (Bohol, Samar and Leyte) - Northern Silvery Kingfisher

Habitat

Moist lowland forests and rivers.

Behaviour

It dives head first into water for small fish.
