Galerida modesta

Identification

Length 14-15 cm. A medium-sized lark with a dark, streaked back and heavily streaked breast; shows rufous in the wing when in flight. Bold, creamy supercilia meet on the nape, isolating the streaked cap. Short crest, frequently raised.

Distribution

Africa: Senegambia to southern Sudan and northern Uganda.

Taxonomy

Galerida modesta has four subspecies:[1]

  • G. m. nigrita
  • G. m. modesta
  • G. m. struempelli
  • G. m. bucolica

Habitat

Dry grassland, open savanna and cultivated lands.
