Gallicolumba ferruginea

Identification

Extinct.

Female - rusty brown head and breast, dark red to purple back, dark green wings, primaries brown-grey with narrow pale edges, grey abdomen. Male - white forehead, supercilium and lower part of the head, throat and breast, red-black belly, black bill with a slightly swollen cere, yellow iris and red feet.


Distribution

Tanna, Vanuatu.

It is believed to have fed on wild nutmeg.
