Identification
47-51cm. Grey-brown above, with white and black spots, pale chesnut-brown to brown-buff facial disk, with darker patch around the eyes, black-brown eyes, white-cream bill, underparts marked with large dark spots, feathered legs, grey-brown to yellow-grey toes with black-brown talons. Females are darker and larger than males.

Endemic to Tasmania.

Forests and semi open wooded areas.
Behaviour
Nocturnal.
The diet includes small mammals, up to the size of rabbits, small birds and lizards.
It makes its nest in tree hollows. 2-4 white eggs are laid and incubated by the female. The young fledge at 10-12 weeks.
