Identification
20-21 cm. Plain brown, faint buff streaks on the crown, buff throat, chestnut tail, short and straight bill. The Plain-brown Woodcreeper is similar in appearance but has rufous wings, rump and tail.
Distribution
Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay.
Taxonomy
It is sometimes considered to be a subspecies of the Plain-brown Woodcreeper (D. fuliginosa).
Monotypic.
Habitat
Lower and middle levels of forest and woodland from the coast into the foothills.
Behaviour
The diet includes arthropods; it follows army ant swarms in order to catch prey flushed by the ants. It will make sallies to catch insects in flight or snatch them from leaves.
