Identification

Males of the original population showed chestnut underside.

Distribution

Described from Tumaco Island and rediscovered on Isla Bocagrande, Colombia. Critically endangered.

Taxonomy

Monotypic.
Sometimes regarded as subspecies or even a color morph of Chestnut-throated Seedeater, and regarded as such by SACC and Clements. Opus waits for a position from more world-wide checklists before deleting this page.

Habitat

Arid low scrubland with marram-type grasses and scattered patches of scrub.

Behaviour

Terrestrial.

The diet includes seeds.
