Identification
Distribution
Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan.
Taxonomy
Five subspecies accepted:
- C. t. blythi in northeast Afghanistan, Pakistan and to the Himalayas to Kumaon
- C. t. thura in the central Himalayas (Nepal to Bhutan)
- C. t. femininus from southeast Tibet to southwest China (Sichuan and Yunnan)
- C. t. dubius in western China (Qinghai to Gansu, Ningxia and Sichuan)
- C. t. deserticolor in western China (northeast Qinghai)
The species is sometimes split into two: Himalayan White-browed Rosefinch (thura and blythi) and Chinese White-browed Rosefinch (femininus, dubius and deserticolor).
Habitat
Temperate forests and shrubland.
