Zaratornis stresemanni

Identification

18 cm. Black crown, silver-white face and cheeks, grey-brown throat and upper breast, rest of underparts yellowish-buff, streaked black, except in mid-belly, upperparts striped buff and dusky, dusky wings and tail fringed yellow, red iris. Juvenile paler, with drab breast.

Distribution

Peru.

Taxonomy

Monotypic.

Habitat

Forests in mountain areas.

Behaviour

Its diet primarily includes two genera of mistletoe, for which it is the main seed-dispersal agent.

Nests are built in March; eggs and young have been found in May.
