Identification
Male is black with white crown and white on the shoulder; tail and rump being completely black separate it from other similar birds.
Female is mostly black including crown but with black-speckled white on breast and throat. In "Ruaha Chat" female, this is extended as a complete, white collar around the neck.

Africa
Western Africa: DRC, Angola
Eastern Africa: Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi
Southern Africa: Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa

There are 2 subspecies

Two additional subspecies, leucolaema and collaris (Ruaha Chat, found in Rwanda and parts of Tanzania) are not generally recognised[2]. However, a recent paper not only present evidence that this should be a valid taxon, but also that it should be recognized as a full species[4].
Placed in genus Pentholaea by Gill and Donsker.
Habitat
Dry forests.
Behaviour
In Rwanda they don't inhabit miombo woodland like across the border in Tanzania but human habitations and nest in roofs.
