Xipholena atropurpurea

Location: RPPN Veracel - Porto Seguro - state of Bahia - Northeast , Brazil

Identification

19 cm. Black-purple body, paler rump and crissum, short tail, white wings, black tips to primaries, white iris. Female - drab grey upperparts, pale eye-stripe, darker wings fringed white, dusky tail, pale grey throat with darker breast mottled white, grey-white on rest of underparts.

Distribution

East Brazil.

Taxonomy

Habitat

Moist lowland forests near coasts.

Behaviour

The diet includes fruit, especially Moraceae, Myrtaceae and Lauraceae, and some insects.
