Norfolk Visit (1 Viewer)

Can any Norfolk birders help please?

We're spending a few days at Wells-next-the-Sea end February and are going to meet up with a friend who lives near Bury St. Edmunds. She will be driving and we wonder if anyone has suggestions as to where would be a suitable place to meet - between her home and north Norfolk. She isn't a birder but is always happy to meet at a reserve or good birding spot and go along with us. (She knows we wouldn't want to 'waste' a birding day just for a reunion!)

Thanks in advance

Sandra

For a good walk with the very real chance of Bittern, Marsh Harrier, Otter and winter finches, you can't beat Strumpshaw Fen!
Two minutes away are Buckenham Marshes: lovely walks on a sunny morning, with thousands of geese and ducks, Stonechat, Peregrines etc etc.

That sounds great - will get info about that.

Meeting up at the WWT reserve at Welney may be worth considering too.

Its relatively easy for your friend to get there from Bury with the A1101 linking both and I'm sure even a non-birder couldn't fail to enjoy the Swans and other wildfowl, especially at the daily feed (midday) which can be watched in comfort from the heated observatory, and there's a cafe at the visitors centre too!

Check out their website at http://www.wwt.org.uk/welney

Regards

Simon
