RFI: Access to Cliffe Pools, Kent (1 Viewer)

Hi there,

Tomorrow I'm likely to go looking for the Little Auk(s) recently reported at Cliffe (well, someone's got to check they're not murrelets ;) ), and was hoping someone could tell me the best place to park to access the western pools of the complex (i.e. the Alpha Pool area), and which way to walk in.

I know how to get at the eastern end, by driving down from the village and parking near the black barn (I think), but I believe that's then a fair walk around to the other end?

Directions, or preferably grid refs, would be fantastic if anyone would be so kind.

Many thanks

The only other place that is accessible by car (to my knowledge) is the Salt Lane entrance - here's the directions from the RSPB site (http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/c/cliffepools/directions.asp)...

Temporary directions to Cliffe Pools: Take the A289 off the A2 near Strood. From the A289 follow the B2000. In the future, Salt Lane will be the main reserve entrance, but parking opportunities there are limited at present. For Salt Lane, turn second left after the round stone 'Cliffe' village sign, turn right at the next T-junction, and Salt Lane is the next left turn.

This brings you to the southern corner of the reserve a short walk from the Pinnacle viewpoint. Not sure if this will bring you any closer or not but it is probably as far as you can get from the Black barn! Also there isn't much space to park here.

Good luck

Youre probably better off driving past the black barn, follow the lane off to the left and parking at the end where the big anti-moped gates are. From here you are at the NW corner of the lakes and head south on foot.
