I camped for several weeks beside this little beauty's favourite fishing spot, because I couldn't bear to leave it. Every day I sat and watched this bird and its mate fish. The log on which this one is perched was their favourite spot for beating their catch to death, which they did very energetically. Once it was dead, they would bash it around some more to tenderise it, since the fish they were catching were actually a little too big for a bird that size to swallow. Where there's a will...
They didn't mind me sitting nearby watching and photographing them, as long as I kept still, so even with my short lens, I was able to get some reasonable photos.
