Snow Bunting in seaweed (Plectrophenax nivalis)

A few flocks of Snow Buntings always winter in in the Vancouver area, usually near or on beach where they blend well into the environment with their nonbreeding plumage. As I was walking on the dyke I saw 4 Snow Bunting landing on the beach close to me, permitting a close-up photograph. Once they were feeding on the ground they were quite inconspicuous.
Habitat
On beach or in nearby fields
Location
Boundary Bay, Delta, B.C., Canada
Date taken
Oct 23, 2004
Scientific name
Plectrophenax nivalis
Equipment used
Canon 20D & 100-400mm IS
A very good capture indeed and I'm envious as I have seldom had chance to get near them with a camera. Great background too to show just how well they blend in.

It is shotslike this where those 100-400 IS lenses show their worth!
Nice one.
