Clouded Yellow
I really don't know if butterfly reproduction goes in cycles but last year we hardly saw any Clouded Yellows whereas we were inundated with Peacocks. This year the reverse is true. It's a pity they don't show us the upper surface of the wing (only in flight) as when they're perched the wings close to show the underside which is much paler.

My last upload for the week so many thanks for your comments and wherever you are and whatever you're doing, have a good week-end!

Very pretty! And yes, I think you may be on to something there. The first summer after my Mom bought her new house, suddenly one day the garden was full of "painted ladies". They were there for weeks. Since then, the next 8 years, we've hardly seen any.

Absolutely stunning Brian!!!! Well done on this fabulous capture of this Clouded Yellow in brilliant lighting!!!! Excellent!!!!

Beautiful image - butterflies here also vary in occurrence from year-to-year. Some that were abundant the last few years disappeared this year. This was particularly true of the Monarch butterfly which was vary scarce in this area this year - but Swallowtails were unusually abundant.
