Grasshopper Warbler

Grasshopper Warbler

'Watched some YouTube videos focusing on this little bird and was hugely impressed by him/her, and so it was a pleasure to get the opportunity to watch this one for an hour or so. He didn't move very far in that space of time and spent most of that time calling. 'Not as elusive as I'd been led to expect, 'certainly not by goldcrest standards.
Habitat
Just off the coast/unkept bushes/ponds
Location
East Durham coast
Date taken

Equipment used

Lovely picture. I too was told that they were difficult to photograph and found it not to be so. Although it's nice to hear them singing it's also very sad as it's a lonely male singing to attract a mate. As soon as they do, they stop singing. TFS.

It's fair to say he didn't perch out in the open, but within the space of an hour he spent more time partly visible than he did tucked away in shrubs. 'Not as elusive as I expected based upon what I'd read! I'd imagine the time of the day played a big role in that, 'either way a lovely little bird to listen to/watch.

Sue & Simon,

Aye, 'pleased to have watched this little bird, Sue and Simon. I'd gone down there after work on the off chance of seeing one and I'd only been down a few minutes when I heard the call and managed to locate him soon after, and he didn't move too far from where I was sat/standing for a good hour. When the light faded and I left he was more or less in the same spot calling. There was another lad through the coast who was there for the owls. He moved off following a short-eared owl while I watched the warbler and when he came back about 45 minutes later he said an owl had been sat not too far behind me in a tree. 'Not that I'd have noticed as I was only there for one thing!
