~Horus The Great~ (Falco Peregrinus)

Here is a something a little different, i have depicted it in the style of the ancients (or tryed to at leased;))

This is the Falcon god Horus, who was one of the most significant and oldest deitys in ancient Egypt.
Here i have depicted him in his falcon form as he was in many statues and hieroglyphs.
He sits on his solar ark, with his many symbols of divine power, the winged sun-disk is behind him, symbolizing his connection as a sun god, and he wears the pschent on his head, a crown which was a symbol of his kingship. The Wedjat or 'the eye of Horus' is below him.

In his falcon form, he was often depicted as a devine Peregrine, so i know someone out there will be happy.....;) Enjoy!

Falco Peregrinus

Well you certainly have some Talent of your own Crimson another Excellent post many thanks.

Brilliant work, Sam. One thing I like about your pictures is the amount of detail and the fact there's more to see than you first think. Very well done (and imagined|=)|)

Tremendous colors, balance, symbolism, IMPACT! Invites concentration, contemplation, and reflection. Your recent works of "a little different" indicate a growing artist, no? Keep up the magnificent work and fly like a Falcon!

Fantastic artwork. I enjoy the precise arrangement and the features in your colorful "little different" presentation of an ancient relief. Good to have your comment to better understand the role of Horus in your display. Hunt, sky, sun, moon, conquest.... many important functions of Horus for the ancient Egyptians. I do not know the sign-language to understand the nature of mythology but i guess the solar ark belongs to the various deluge legends. I better stop writing now or i make historians laugh of me.

Thank you gentlemen, for all your kind words:t::t::t:

Frank...i think i am starting to experiment a bit more. I hope to do more like this soon and take more inspiration from the ancient cultures, Meso-American, Sumerian, Tibetan, Hindu and many more! Stay tuned and watch this space....;)

JB, the solar ark is how the gods traveled to earth, according to some legends. You are right, there are many different stories regarding Horus, he was very important, he had a cult at Edfu, the temple still stands today, it is somewhere i would love to visit one day...
