Plain-bellied Emerald (Amazilia leucogaster)

This lovely hummingbird was seen on the main island -Ile Royale, in the Salvation Islands group, off French Guiana.
This is the group of islands where France had the infamous penal colony, known as Devil's Island. Our cruise ship stopped here for the day and we were ferried ashore by ship's tender. We thought we weren't going to see many birds, as we arrived late in the morning, but after 3pm quite a few interesting species came out to play!
