Wood Duck (Aix sponsa)

Took a walk on Christmas Day afternoon and found this stunning male Wood Duck in the middle of a pond on a neighbor's ranch. The lighting was perfect! We often see a pair of Wood Ducks fly over our property, heading in the direction of this ranch, but there was no female with him this time.

They are very showy ducks these, aren't they Helen.

That's an excellent picture you've taken of this guy lass. Very well done my friend.

BTW it appears the Gallery Search only picks up the scientific name from the Tags, so it needs to be entered there as well as in the Scientific Name field (which provides the link to The Opus article). All a bit confusting at first LOL.
