Yellow-rumped Warbler
7.5x11 inches. Watercolor on Arches cold press 140# paper. I've been seeing and sketching Yellow-rumped warblers for the last week to 10 days as they make their way through on their northerly migration. Mainly I've stared and them and done field sketches. I hope that this is the year I finally get comfortable sketching them from life. This is based on all those sketches and a photo that I took at Morris Arboretum in Philadelphia, PA yesterday.

A really lovely watercolour, not over-fussy with background detail, just enough to add interest.

Well done.

Thanks KC and Delia. Glad you like the lack of background detail Delia. My preference is to keep it fresh and unfussy if I can.

I like the abstract qualities here Ken. Very vibrant.

Best wishes.

Thanks Steve. It's always a pleasure to see these birds, and then try to get something of them down on paper. This year my goal is to get where I'm able to do decent field sketches of them during the short time that they pass through our area.
