Yorkshire Birding (2 Viewers)

Still some good waders at Fairburn; 3 Blackwit, 2 greenshank, 2 green sandpiper, 6 ringed plovers, snipe, best of all 8 ruff next to the road absolutely oblivious to my presence.

Semi-p

Anyone know if this was defo. missing on the ponds earlier in the day, or possibly overlooked?

Just trying to establish if it was seen to fly in on the high tide.

Thanks.

There where 2 maybe 3 sootys seen, 1 manx, i think there was maybe 8/9 Bonxies (including a group of 4 ) a few Arctic Skuas, (cant remember how many) 1 Red Throated Diver on the sea, 1 Sabine's was called out, but not all connected with it (including me) , 1 drake Common Scoter on the sea, i saw 4 Common Terns, 2 Diver sp flying high north and a flock of 16 Common Scoter north seen while waiting to board the boat

Magic Seaweed reckons easterlies Friday afternoon and Saturday morning next week. Combined with a bit of rain forecast, could be fairly good on the coast next weekend? (Crossing my fingers because got Spurn trip planned for Saturday!).

Hi Steve,
The Semipalmated was seen late afternoon and into the evening, by most of the Spurn regs, on Saturday, was looked for at first light, Sunday, however was not seen again.

Hi Andy, few of mine, but not had chance to go through all images yet;most are record shots only.Sorry didn't meet u,was last on,ended up at back of boat, which might retrospectaviely been a good move! Was choppy, and couldn't hear all birds being called, but was dry!!!Sabines Gull none starter for me,but got onto LT skua early, would have been lifer, but my rubbish photo was probably one of ones which shed doubt.Never seen LTS but was arctic for me!Good trip all the same, as Rob says on other forum ,congrats to all staff from RSPB/boat;thankyou!

Had a fairly quiet weekend, not much happening at Flamborough on Saturday, and one YL Gull in the LDV today. Write up on my blog, but a bit frustrating, as it sounds like I chose the wrong times/days to be on the coast. Always the way

Nice pics there Doc, I was at the back of the boat too hehe, i was sat next to Martin Standly on the port side, i think when that Sabines was called out it was well on its way south, i didnt connect with it either, i think it was a good idea to sit at the back as it was a bit choppy out in the bay, and not as wet as sitting out on the front, hopefully going to book for the 2 and 9th of October cruises too, cant do either of this weekend trips, its a shame that skua wasnt a long tailed, ive never seen one before either, maybe next time !!??

Big learning curve for me on the skuas. I think your 3rd pic labelled greatskua2 is arctic. Non of the Arctics I saw on last weeks cruise had central tail feathers anything like as long as the 2 birds in your first 2 photos.

I need to spend more time in the sea!!

Know what u mean Trystan but fairly certain both 3rd images from 2 sets are Great Skuas, chunky birds, broad winged with obvious white wingflash. The Arctics seem vary variable, and this was first 'dark phase' one i've seen,so don't worry ,just get out there again(hopefully onto the sea,not in it!)

Paul
