Yorkshire Birding (4 Viewers)

Can't see anything other than a blackbird really.

I've not posted on the Yorkshire blog before, But I'd be grateful for opinions on this thrush seen at lunchtime today by the river in Apperley Bridge.
I think it's a likely oddly plumaged juv blackbird, but it just looked a bit odd.
Sorry I only had a few, quick record shots through my bins with my phone.
This picture is heavily cropped...
Thanks.

as anyone got any info on the caspian gull at neepsend sheffield? best times to see it etc.

Thanks,
Paul

When it's there!

Sorry Paul - could not resist that quip.
Sadly I've no info on the bird. Bin a while since I have caught up with a Caspo so I too would welcome further info on the bird.

The Caspian Gull in Neepsend, Sheffield

From Neepsend Lane, turn north onto Parkwood Road.A hundred yards or so on the right, there is a large open area with overhead industrial pipes. The gulls were loafing on this area, flying off every now and then to feed on the local tip

I was there last Tuesday morning fom 10:45 onwards and picked up the adult Caspian Gull almost immediately. A far more experienced birder joined me sonn after 11:00 and it was he that firstly confirmed my adult and then, almost immediately found the first winter Caspian Gull............... Find one, get one free!!

Good hunting, sorry, birding

Ldv

Still no change at the north duffield carrs.

plenty of wigeon, teal, golden plover stacks of geese, and a huge gull roost building up nicely.

Bring your wellies if your coming over. ;)

More details on my Blog.....

Thanks for info & quip on caspian gull at neepsend, went today.Dint see it! Gave it 3 hours, from 10 till 1. Saw quite a few gulls flying over & only saw a juv Greater black backed gull land. Didn't think about the tip not working on sundays & this seems to have affected the gulls usual behaviour. I'll try again when the tips working

Paul

Zing, could be of interest to you. Me & mate were at the ldv last week & had a hour to spare at the end of the day so went to wheldrake wood, we spotted a large flock of greeenfinch & there was 2 brambling in with them

I've got a couple regular in the garden in north Duffield :)

Finally managed to get out today in the LDV, went looking for brambling at a suggested location but no luck. Went off to aughton to look for Bewicks but the road was totally under, managed to get to ellerton though what a great place. Plenty of wigeon, pochard, teal about and some nice close pintail & shelduck. Quite a few whoopers about but couldn't pick out any bewicks, 70+ swans about though a chap turned up and said the farm over the water has a shoot today at 1pm at which point all the swans bugger off & don't return every year - shame

The river has crossed the road at bubwith but is still passable & relatively shallow at the moment.

Did you see them? Couple of other birders were there but couldn't find any, they were a bit distant for me and the wind shaking my scope really didn't help!! Gutted I missed the hen harrier knew I should have called into the Carrs!
