A nice haul Des - any idea how many species for the day? Dave Jackson was hoping to record 100 species in a week; I wonder if he's close to that target now

Today's three year ticks (Gropper, Wheatear and Pied Fly) takes the 2013 list up to 129 whilst a fourth month tick (Osprey) elevates April to 112.

Dave J has had a Greenshank and 5 Dunlin through the Moors Pool this morning - good to get some wader movement (Greenshank is new for the year). Grasshopper Warbler still on North Moors but no sign of the Pied Fly in a very brief look.

The wader movement appears to be continuing. Sanderling is latest species reported on Moors Pool. Let's hope DJ got it!
I don't suppose anyone fancies paying my mortgage off so that I can retire and join in the fun at the Mecca... No, thought as much! :-C

I'm down for a few hours late morning to relieve Dave, (he needs a rest and give some one else a chance to find something8-P)
This is what VIS MIG (visible migration) is all about and early mornings and evenings are the best time.

A number of the nest boxes around the reserve - especially at the Flashes - are showing signs of woodpecker attack. Has anyone got any of the entrance plate they are willing to donate or know where they can be purchased locally? (Sy V - did you source some from somewhere?)

Sorry Phil, I remember seeing this and neglected to reply.
Bottom line is - No, I failed to source some sensibly priced plates.
My theory is that 28mm plates will do for both (25 and 28mm) box types.
The box on the Flashes that really got attacked last year looked typical of a squirrel attempt to me - the wood around the hole showed evidence of having been gnawed and stripped IMHO. Whatever the case, we need something and it would be best sooner rather than later.

The best I can find are these people:http://www.thepetexpress.co.uk/birds-living-spaces/wild-bird-nesting/cj-nest-box-plates-28mm?gclid=CJqqp4nA5bYCFWXJtAod_F4A0g who, if 10 plates are ordered only add £3.99 p&p.
£20.90 = £3.99 = £24.89.
We'd need to budget for suitable small screws as well though. But, from what I hear you're the SME on this area, Phil! ;) :eek!:
