I've seen hundreds of cormorants but I have yet to see one in a tree. I only see them in the ocean or on rocks, boats or buoys.
I see them regularly in trees in Germany, away from the coast. On lakes surrounded by trees and bushes they hang out in the trees and not only to dry off.
I've never actually seen cormorants away from the ocean. Never on fresh water. It makes me wonder if ours have in the US Northeast have different ways.
AFAIK Double-crested Cormorants can be seen in the Great Lakes region.I've never actually seen cormorants away from the ocean. Never on fresh water. It makes me wonder if ours have in the US Northeast have different ways.
I think those are Black Kites. Nice backyard you have there, though. I wish we had shrikes in urban habitats here in Europe, too...An Eagle prying at something. Look at her strong claws!

Are the first two pics a Syke's Warbler?

The sinensis race of the Great Cormorant can be seen inland throughout Europe. I've even seen them at the Yellow River in an otherwise very dry region in China.
