Lesser Yellowlegs still with Redshanks at back of pool on left late this afternoon. 2 Green Sandpipers flew over and went down on pool on right.

1 Firecrest seen mid morning today along the path around edge of Hole's Bay, walking East from Upton Park (past wader view point, and c200m beyond swing gate).

YBW's

There were 3 Yellow-browed Warblers along the PCWorld Drain, Holes Bay this morning. Associating with the local Chiff's which numbered in the 40's

Lytchett Fields- 2 Yanks

Found a GW Teal on Sherford Pools this morning and the Lesser Yellowlegs is also still using the fields, so a 2 Yank day. The GW Teal was fairly distant so only record shots achieved, hopefully it will stay around a while and give better views!

The GWT is the 169th bird recorded on the fields and around the bay , by far the biggest year ever , smashing last years record year list of 160. Can 1 more bird be found to finish off on a nice 170?

Longham Lakes

A few good birds at Longham Lakes at the moment. 3 Great White Egret are giving exceptional views. Also a bit more distant at least 5 Jack Snipe are frequenting the northern shore of South lake and the Little Stint is still on the island on South Lake

Lovely captures of these Great White Egrets from both of you, it as been quite amazing to be able to watch three of them on the patch.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to all Dorset Birdforum readers. 2016 was a great birding year locally especially at Lytchett Fields. Final numbers for the site were a record breaking total of 169, beating last years previous record breaking figure of 160.
I personally saw 162(not including a fly-over Great Bustard!), again this breaks my record set last year for a single person year list of 150.

Obvious highlights were Lesser Yellowlegs, Aquatic Warbler,Green-winged Teal, Glossy Ibis, BW Stilt, Whooper Swan, Spotted Crake .

Lytchett produced many other great patch birding days with great company, will be out today trying to start the year off with a bang, Yellowlegs was on site still yesterday although not seen the GWT for a couple of days, hopefully both will be found in 2017!!

Have a great and bird filled 2017 and finally a few pics of some of Lytchetts finest of 2016

Ian

Had a good few hours at Stanpit Marsh on Friday morning, plenty of birds about, pushed in by the high tide, but they soon cleared off when a couple of hunters started shooting just off Priory Marsh, it's surprising they are still permitted to shoot here.

Had Waxwings on and off at the end of my road (Hanham Road) in Corfe Mullen for the last couple of weeks. Not there every day but has been every two or three days I guess.

Very nice! I have been trying to catch up with these birds they always seem to show up when I am at work and when I tried getting there when they were first reported they had moved on. Would love to see them as it would be a first for me as never seen them before.

Yes, thanks for putting the news out via the DBC sightings. I saw them on their 2nd and 3rd day. Always great to see!!

Last Friday was a good day, they were here opposite my house from around 11am right through till around 6pm. Not been here at all this weekend yet though, maybe that's it for now.

Paul.

Just in case anyone is nearby and reads this, 4 Waxwing turned up just now opposite my bungalow in Hanham Road, Corfe Mullen, nearly 3pm.

Paul.
Darn, I went to Longham this afternoon though did have a patch first with a male Goosander on the large lake.
Paul would it be ok to Pm you with my mobile so you could text me if they turn up next friday or this week I think I could make it over if they turn up as I finish work at 4.30pm

Sure, that would be fine.

They only stayed for about half an hour this afternoon so it would have been hard for anyone to see them unless they were already here. I think some people turned up after I made the report but I don't know if they were in time or not. I guess these four birds are feeding all over the local area but it's only me reporting on the Dorset Bird Club sightings page.

Just sent you a PM

Seen the Waxwing here at Hanham Rd at 7.30am the last two mornings when I let the dog out. Looked lovely this morning in the sunrise.

All taken with Nikon D3300 at 600mm.

They must be roosting nearby, did they feed on the berries at Bakers View this morning? And do you know if they returned at all during the day?

Love the pictures especially the one with the sun coming through the fanned tail feathers!!
