Big Brother of my Kowa TSN-99a

@paperweight , you can make your life easier finding things in the sky, when using the kowa for astro, if you mount a 3d printed dot finder holder ring on the Kowa. You can find online the 3d plans and ordering them at a printer service is cheap. Also dot finders are not expensive, so it may be...

Sample variation and testing of TSN-883

As already said in previous comments, high magnifications show when and how things brake down. I tend to use my 883 with high mags, I often keep both 1.6x extenders on. Most often, atmosphere limits the terrestrial views, than lens imperfections at 153x. But this is a way you can detect...

Thank you for the answers. Yes, I have a Nikon Monarch 5 8x42. No problems of this kind.

Canon 12x36 IS iii collimation problem

Hi, I have recently received an online purchase of Canon 12x36 IS iii binocular. Being my first IS bino, this is indeed a very useful feature. However I wasn't lucky enough to receive a copy without collimation problems, that some older posts on birdforum seem to have mentioned. It is not an...

Kowa Prominar 883 star test pictures

Thank you Joachim. It is those two symmetrical flares on the outside ring around the dim prism line(in my second pic) that will be the spikes with focused bright stars? I had an amazing view of Sirius the other night (middle of the city sky), and it showed burning moving flares (air I guess)...

Kowa Prominar 883 star test pictures

Thanks Binastro. All true about the window glass, it causes all kinds of smear/bloom/blur although with naked eye it seems perfect. For me, worse than the closed window view is the open window view with temp differences. Guess crazy air movement around the objective causes this.

Kowa Prominar 883 star test pictures

And yes I recognize the same vertical dim line as other posts before me, which I understand is prism/construction related. I also noticed that in daylight at the lowest magnification there is this lit up squared area around the exit pupil. I understand from binoculars that for a good bino/scope...

Kowa Prominar 883 star test pictures

Thank you very much Juhani for answering. I confirm, the first pic is outside, the next two are inside focus. I'm done with the star testing, so resolution tests will be the next ones to stress me out :)

Kowa Prominar 883 star test pictures

Hi everyone, First thank you all for the resources found on this forum, helped me make a decision and got eventually the 883 (with a 1.6 extender)at a decent price in my area. It is a great scope having a reach and sharpness that I find just great. (Not too many real life benchmarks in my...

Kowa Prominar 883 star test pictures

Thanks Kimmo for the link and input. For me too, the expectation of a wider use of the 833, made me favor it.

Kowa Prominar 883 star test pictures

Agree with you on the specialized cheaper options. Unfortunately, living inside the city (heavily light polluted) make little use of the tools you mentioned. I don't see myself carrying large boxes with gear. I know it's a tradeoff, and planetary is quite limited. It's also what I want to avoid...

Kowa Prominar 883 star test pictures

Thank you Binastro. The unknown to me is how wide is that variance in image quality with terrestrial and astro, between a good copy and a not so good one with real life cases at higher magnification. I see from the tests posted by other owners(controlled envs), but how these inpact viewing and...

Kowa Prominar 883 star test pictures

Thank you all for the great gear info here on birdforum, i'm on the market for my first spotting scope, as I reached to the conclusion that a high quality one will cover all my related intererests: nature/terestrial long reach viewing, photography, ocasional astro, a decent amount of mobility...
