    Your Most Recent "Life" Bird

I hope there will be more (trivial) life-birds for me. Landlord reportedly saw a wagtail the other day, which has become rare here.

Sparrows demand more sunflower seeds after first week of supply

That's a bird riot, lol... Like this? Amazon.com : Sunflower Hearts/Chips 8LB : Pet Supplies What does "heart" mean? "Dehulled"? It's 2 bucks for half a pound here, but I don't have 156 brbs here.

    Your Most Recent "Life" Bird

I hope "life-bird" is a loose term here, because I saw my first woodcock (Scolopax rusticola, English terms might be misleading, "Waldschnepfe") the day before yesterday. Woodcock is not a rare bird where I live, but I haven't seen one before, so that's my most recent life-bird, right?. (The...

Sparrows demand more sunflower seeds after first week of supply

How can that be? I don't think that I've made a mistake, sparrows are easy to identify (from the chirping, also from behavior and looks, of course). Are there any sparrows where you live? Do other birds eat the seeds? Blackbirds and tits (not quite sure) are fond of my meals, too, but visits are...

Sparrows demand more sunflower seeds after first week of supply

I have two plates on the porch for sunflower seeds for birds. (Nobody liked the berries.) All sorts of birds are customers now, but most are sparrows. The birds are extremely shy and bolt even when I stealthily peep through the blinds. Yesterday I heard loud chirping from the porch, so I went to...

    Training missions for young swallows?

P.S.: definitely Mauersegler. I guess I was living a lie, confusing swifts for swallows until now. Many swifts here, but as my book says, not on the ground. Anyways, remote bullseye identification on your part.

    Training missions for young swallows?

Thanks! No. (I spent most of my life in an inner city. Now in a small town with many... birds. My first bird-book came today.) Sounds plausible, swift is in the new book. (The book also has silhouettes of birds in flight, perfect for next time.) This fits the bill, no pun intended...

    Ducklings walking on water?

I saw a duckling running over water at the park once. There was no doubt about what was going on, other people noticed the phenomenon and stopped for watching it. The duckling ran to and fro over the (small) lake, perhaps for its own amusement, perhaps enjoying the attention.

    Training missions for young swallows?

Hello, I noticed a small flock of birds the other day and thought those were sparrows at first, but the birds had pointy wings and were flying in a fairly synchronized and acrobatic manner. Swallows are a common sight here, especially during dusk, but I've never seen them in flocks (except in...
