Norfolk birding

Managed to get within feet of a very friendly Twite and then almost tripped over a beautifully coloured Richard's Pipit this morning at Waxham. Both birds were towards bottom of dunes just to left of the beach entrance (at the church). 100s of Redwings all over the place + 4 Fieldfare and a...

I had 18 kids excitedly surveying our 5 school birdfeeders at lunchtime today, down at the school allotment. They were delighting in Robins, Blue, Great and a bonus Coal Tit. These are the supposed teenage yoof of today who just take drugs and mug grannies. No-one was bitching about whether it...

    Norfolk birding

Had the very nice man from PACT in to give an assembly to 800 teenage kids at school. He had them in absolute raptures from start to finish. Only time I've ever seen that in my career. Will be taking them to visit the sanctuary. Good work animal rescue fella. BirdBeard

Morning All, Just took the baby out for a look at the garden and heard an almighty kerfuffle. Directly above us a Peregrine was mobbing a Buzzard. After a hell of a scrap the Buzzard retreated over the Crem and the Peregrine (one of the Cathedral birds? I live in NR2 with the spire within view)...

Our village is starting to look scruffy so we are investigating ways of clearing the weeds from the actual road surfaces. One plant common down my street is Salsify Tragopogon porrifolius which I think used to be grown as a fodder crop. There are lots of garden escapes. We're trying to...

Bonsoir encore M. Firstreesjohn, The man in the pram is Aneurin, my 4 month old half-Welsh baby. He's already got some good ticks to his name (Pied Flycatcher, Hawfinch, Crossbill) and favours the local Crem on his early morning strolls. This morning we were in search of a Spotted Flycatcher...

    Norfolk birding

Bonsoir, Does anyone know if the Osprey has stuck around at Ranworth? Have in-laws coming next weekend who would be very keen to see it. Highlights of today's pram-birding included ChiffChaff and Fox in Earlham Crem and 3 Common Sandpipers, loads of Whitethroats, a Willow Warbler and a few...

    Got a Norwich list?

    Norfolk birding

Bonjour, I was lucky enough to find the Pied Flycatcher this morning, whilst taking my baby boy Aneurin (a keen birder at 3 months) for a stroll in his pram. It was in Earlham Crematorium, off Earlham Road, Norwich. Here's where it was: take the first tarmacked path on the right by the...

Saw a lovely Red Kite just past the Easton roundabout on my way to work in Dereham, at 7.30am this morning. Nice start to the day. The courting Oystercatchers are back on their spot at work, along with 60 Common Gull. Bird of the Spring would have to be a Moussier's Redstart. I know that's not...

    Norfolk birding

for the last couple of years me and a couple of friends have fairly regularly seen a red kite in the easton/marlingford area, and also a fly-by once in my mum's back garden in hethersett. it seems marlingford is the new rarity hotspot. excuse 1 handed, poorly punctuated typing - have poorly baby...

Yes, I missed them too - it's a big marsh to find them in, mind. My mate Le Hatt has the luck of the irish...or the Welsh... probably not the Scots ;). Welsh Girl reckons the Grand Slam is on.
