    Thank you both. In the end I put it up on the butterfly forum and Peter Eales and Guy Padfield confirmed it as a Large Tortoiseshell too :) But, many thanks to everyone for the responses.

    Thank you :) This one was in the shade which may have created a cast in any case. I confess I was using the orange antenae as my guide because I thought it was white on a peacock. I don't really mind which it is, either of which is a first on the island and adds to my ever growing list :)

    Is anyone able to confirm if this is a Large Tortoiseshell. It was taken recently on the Greek island of Skiathos. It is the first one I have seen so am a little unsure, sadly it did not want to open it's wings!

    Hi Daniel, I have been to Skiathos on several occassions. Sometimes we have had more luck with discoveries than others. On my website, I have written a free wildlife account which you might enjoy and it does provide quite an insight (I think) for some good places to go looking. I hope it helps...
