    Large Tortoiseshell Confirmation

Thank you both. In the end I put it up on the butterfly forum and Peter Eales and Guy Padfield confirmed it as a Large Tortoiseshell too :) But, many thanks to everyone for the responses.

    Large Tortoiseshell Confirmation

Thank you :) This one was in the shade which may have created a cast in any case. I confess I was using the orange antenae as my guide because I thought it was white on a peacock. I don't really mind which it is, either of which is a first on the island and adds to my ever growing list :)

    Large Tortoiseshell Confirmation

Is anyone able to confirm if this is a Large Tortoiseshell. It was taken recently on the Greek island of Skiathos. It is the first one I have seen so am a little unsure, sadly it did not want to open it's wings!

    Which Goldenring in Greece?

I am thinking that these are Balkan Goldenrings but, despite going through my book extensively I am still not sure. They were taken on the Greek island of Skiathos in the Aegean. Dragonfly 1 Dragonfly 2 Both of them have several segments in the bottom wing section closest to the body(not...

Zen-Ray Binoculars Giveaways. Ultimate Prize: two pairs of PRIME HD binoculars

My first post because I have only just found the thread. If I were wittier I would write a poem ...but, sadly my talents don't extend to the written word, they are more pictorial ;)

    Skiathos/Scopolos Birding?

Daniel, The butterflies in late May early June are abundant ~ I am up to about 40-50 species now. Always lovely to see :) Although birding seems to be a bit hit and miss, I know that Golden Orioles have been seen at Kolios and also Hoopoes at Troulos. Not new for you I suspect but, there are...

    Skiathos/Scopolos Birding?

Hi Daniel, I have been to Skiathos on several occassions. Sometimes we have had more luck with discoveries than others. On my website, I have written a free wildlife account which you might enjoy and it does provide quite an insight (I think) for some good places to go looking. I hope it helps...

Thank you. I am getting stuck on forum limititations to file size, does this help? I do have many images of Keeled Skimmers (or they may be Southern) from the same place and the same time. However, the males have blue eyes and the females have bluish eyes with a yellow face. All other...

    More Skiathos Butterflies

From the lack of response, I can only think common blue...I have so many blue images and none of them look the same! Some of it I think is local variation... I think this is a female but she would have had me fooled! I have never seen a more brown version of a blue! And she looked so silvery in...

Two Dragonflies for ID ~ greece

Both were taken on the island of Skiathos and both found in freshwater streams. This first one was in shady mud and I am thinking it looks like a Spectre???! However, despite going through my book I can only come up with Eastern Spectre. Would that be right for the range? I am also unsure of...

    More Skiathos Butterflies

Hello, hello... it has been a while since I have been here. I think I started a similar thread about 18 months ago using a simple snappy(camera) to try and identify some butterflies from my hols. Things have moved on a little bit and I have quite a list of the butterflies on Skiathos now...but I...

    Bird ID Skiathos Greece

Hi there, I wondered if anyone could possibly help me with an ID for these birds please? Thanks very much in advance, I am not familiar with these although I suspect the last two are male and female of the same species. They are quite plentiful, the first one I only ever saw once.
