Ian, go to setup menu (wrench) and it is the second from the end,, you may want to test it out as I found just a few points one way made a difference at 200% viewing,, when your going for those fine feather details, every little bit helps,, Derry -

you might also watch the bay for a pre owned belows unit,, I found a very nice for Nikon and it will surprise ya for what you can capture with jsut a norrmal 50mm 1.8 lens,, Derry -
sharpness issues?
Marcel, I shoot with a 70-200 and a 1.7 TC,, using a D300,, I am an (aged) astronomer and have always tested all my lens for critical sharpness,, my 70-200 was almost dead on but with the TC 1.7 behind it the camera needed a +5 for fine focus set up,, for my test I do all comparisons at 200 to... -
sharpness issues?
would also recommend a bright day when you have good contrast,, you don't see a lot of photos taken on overcast days offering razor sharp details,, need some good light,, also agree on the speed issue,, the faster the better,, Derry -

shoot a lot of moving sports with the D300,, in C mode I use the AF-ON button all the time,, ya can just hold the button down and the lens will continue to focus and track your moving subject and then when ready to shoot, use the release button,, seemed a bit odd at first as was so use to only... -
Why are my data files in .TIF format
some of the PCs software will only handle the jpeg format,, for the raw and Tiff format as new cameras come out they normally new new software additions to handle the cameras format,, seems it is never ending,, good that ya got it working,, Derry -

Nikon 300mm f4+1.7TC vs Sigma 150-500
grab the good glass first and then upgrade the body,, if your considering a TC 1.7 be sure to test them out first as there are some bad copies,, it took me three to find a great one,, after I found a good one the 1.4 went bye bye,, Derry -
Nikon 200mm f4 Macro Lens
I have an older f4 200mm that I mainly use on my bellows,, I also have the new 105 2.8 VR for direct comparison which cannot be used on the bellows but I have photographed the same subject (bees) with both lens,, I would grade the 200mm as good to very good depending on what I am using it for... -

Nikon 300DS SLR
