"Too dumb" to use a Scope?

Sorry for the delay in replying. I got fed up with squinting and eventually getting ‘aching eyes’, and the ‘both eyes open’ technique never worked for me. the clamp round the eyepiece is from the Bushnell digiscoping kit. I drilled a small hole through the stalk that extends from the clamp...

"Too dumb" to use a Scope?

I suffered with the same one eye open / one eye shut thing so designed this. If you’re interested I can explain how to construct it

    Question on Tawny Owls

Thanks Cafe Birder, I wasn’t aware Jays did that. The only Jay sound I’m familiar with is the standard screech. And thanks again everyone for your input. I suppose if you’re out at night and you hear the full Tawny Owl call you’d know instantly whether it’s one solo or a pair of birds Due to...

    Question on Tawny Owls

Is it just a case of maybe both? As in sometimes the whole call is uttered by a single bird, sometimes it’s shared by two birds. Or is there a definitive rule

    Question on Tawny Owls

Thanks for your input everyone. I was always led to believe the calls/song was from two separate birds, as confirmed on Dominick Couzen’s Teach yourself birdsound tapes. It was just that this guy from the RSPB, an expert in bird sound, said the two owl thing was a myth. That’s one of the joys of...

    Question on Tawny Owls

Apologies if this question has been asked before but:- Regarding the ‘Kuwick!!...Hoo..hooooo’ calls of the Tawny Owl (excuse the crap phonetics), I was always led to believe (quantified by a bird/birding expert) that this was a two part call made by two different birds, the ‘Kuwick’ by one bird...

Where to watch birds -France (published by Helm) has a chapter on Brittany which lists the top 16 sites. It also covers all the Atlantic coast.

    Escaped Lynx killed - UK

Before citing my own personal experience with Lynx, can I say I don't like the idea of animals being shot when they could be tranquillised, and that I am in favour, generally, of re-introduction schemes. So... We (me, my wife, and our two sons) had driven up to Derbyshire for the day. On the way...

    ATX eyepiece button stuck!

I'm sorry but if buyers of the ATX system are paying thousands of pounds for equipment that is supposedly designed for rugged, all weather, all temperature, outside use, then a construction fault or frequent use or users not being careful are not excuses. These scopes are supposed to be the best...

Collins British Birds OR Collins BTO Guide to British Birds

BadgerGirl, if you're anything like me you probably skip the introduction part of books and dive straight in. DON'T do this with the Collins Bird Guide, the six page intro is gold dust to the beginner (as are the intro pages to Waders and Gulls found later in the book).

    ATX eyepiece button stuck!

I'm not familiar with the ATX, but... Maybe a small rubber suction / sucker cup? Those that fix signs people hang in the backs of cars (baby on board), kiddies bow and arrow sucker, suckers that fix to glass. That type of thing. Might not work but at least it won't affect the warranty.
