    Orphaned chicks - Help!

To my dismay, the blue tit chicks in my nest box have been orphaned! There was only one bird feeding but this parent bird has now been killed by a cat leaving six chicks in the nest. I was wondering if placing them into a surrogate nest box would be the best option? Would the RSPB help? Any...

    Bluetit Bully

The Bluetits in our nestbox seem particularly aggressive this year! - I have some feeders up close, but not too close to the box. Any bird, particularly golfinches, that come anywhere near the feeders are immediately set upon by one or other or sometimes both tits - and they won't stop chasing...

    Bold Blackbird

I've managed to hand feed quite a few blackbirds in the garden on mealworms. They even used to stand in wait at a specific spot every morning and would fly straight to my hand!

    Bryophyte Website

Hi If there is anybody out there with an interest in all things mossy, we are currently putting up a website to help identify problem bryophytes! It is in its infancy e.g. only one moss up so far but more to come. Any suggestions welcome. www.bryoecology.org

Something is wiping out my Greenfinches

Originally, our feeding area was lawn but is now soil! I use Ark-Klens and Tamodine-e to disinfect (which you can get through www.vetark.co.uk) and then sprinkle a little GardenKlens. I'm actually going to pave over the area to make it easier to remove debris and scrub clean. An option for you?

Something is wiping out my Greenfinches

Hi songbird I have had similar problems! It certainly sounds like Salmonella. I actually sent a couple of dead birds to be analysed it it was salmonella which the infected bird passes on through its saliva and droppings. Apart from stringent cleaning with an anti-bacterial agent I would...

    Waxwing Invasion?

There has been a flock of around 30 in St. Andrews for the past 3 days. I work from home and have had great views of them in the trees right outside my window - not great for concentration!
