Ghana Butterflies -- ID assistance, please.

I am wading through the many butterfly photos I took in Ghana in January 2013. We had a knowledgeable guide with us, but at times the leps were appearing with great speed, and field note-taking sometimes suffered. As well, at times I misheard the names that were called out. I have attached...

Latest Ghana Update My latest blog entry presents our afternoon exploration of Ghana’s capital, Accra. This particular post is image-heavy and text-light. Birders be warned: only a few of the images are bird-related. You can go directly to that post by clicking here...

Assistance Requested -- Unidentified Ghana dragonflies

Thanks Paul. I will leave the ID at the genus level, to be conservative.

Assistance Requested -- Unidentified Ghana dragonflies

Can anyone proffer an identification for the two attached Ghana dragonfly photos? I am far removed from any resources to assist me in their species determination. Cheers, Blake

What do Lakumono Lagoon, Mary Hopkin, a Dancing Acraea, “Man-Deisal”, Temma Harbour, and Wattled Lapwings have in common? Less than you might think, but more than is obvious. You can find out more on the Ghana Gambol, now appearing on my blog. This series, recounting the Maritimes Travel...

Unusually Early Spring Migration in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Two of us surveyed an area outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia, for last Saturday’s spring bird migration count, and we were pleased (and amazed) to tally 14 species of warbler. Such a high total so early in our spring is unprecedented, and was not the result of a weather-related fallout -- rather...

    Central & Eastern Turkey - June-July 2011

We wanted to highlight this site not because we thought we had "discovered" it, but because it was not listed in the Turkish Birdfinding Guides we had to hand, nor had I read of it in trip reports. But I believe it should become an essential stop on any eastern Turkey birding itinerary. Cheers.

    Central & Eastern Turkey - June-July 2011

Turkey Report - Addendum In my recent report I neglected to praise "The Birds of Turkey" by Guy Kirwan, et al. It was an extremely useful resource both before and during our explorations, and is worth bringing, despite the size and weight. Highly recommended.
