    Siskins are back

    Had a pair of siskins on the niger seed feeders at the weekend, a pair of bullfinches, numerous greenfinch, chaffinch and 49 goldfinch, which I don't think is bad for a garden in a housing estate.

    We went to Buckenham in late October - loads of geese, including a bar-headed which I'm assuming was an escapee. The corvid roost in the evening was spectacular.

    Birding alone or with others?

    I almost always go birding with my wife. We've got many interests but this is the only one we really share. Apart from that she's excellent at recognising calls (I'm a bit deaf) but I've got better eyesight, so we make a good combination.

    Grossest thing you've seen a bird do

    I can cope with most things but one that turned my stomach was watching a kiddy eating an ice cream on the beach. A sizeable splodge of seagull poop landed on it and the kiddy carried on licking the ice cream, finishing it off. I didn't intervene because I wanted to see what would happen...
