    DOF Question

    Leif, I have never heard of "depth of focus", but you described depth of field very well. Put another way, its the distance between near and far areas that are in focus. This is proportional to the focal ratio. The eye with a binocular is like a camera with a telephoto lens.

    701RC2 Balance Question

    As an aside, I removed the pan handle because I found that it got in the way. When my 701 is adjusted all it takes is a light touch on the scope (pentax 65ED) to move it smoothy.
