Identifying a spare part for Swarovski (Manfrotto) tripod 1

My Swarovski tripod 1 suffered some serious damage during my recent trip - contrary to my usual practice, I did not take it as hand luggage onto the plane and the luggage handlers somehow managed to toss my bag around so hard that part of the tripod broke. Unfortunately, I'm really not into...

    Two wheatears from Armenia

I forgot to upload the photos of the second bird in my initial post.

    Two wheatears from Armenia

I need some help with these two wheatears, photographed in Armenia in early September. I think the first one might be a female Finsch's - unfortunately I was preoccupied by digiscoping the bird and didn't note the tail pattern. Photos of the second bird are slightly more awful - I believe it's...

    Escaped waterfowl, Slovenia

Thanks, Joern! Now that you mention the species involved I feel really silly for not thinking of this combination: white cheek, elongated tail, Wood Duck-shaped head ... Makes perfect sense now!

    Escaped waterfowl, Slovenia

I need some help with identifying this fence-hopping duck - unfortunately it's not one of the usual escapees (at least as far Slovenia is concerned).

    Istanbul: 2nd - 6th Sept

After scouring various sites for reports, I now have quite a clear picture of where I should be going - namely: Büyük Çamlıca (other spots are out of the question, because I'll be relying on public transport/taxis) for raptor migration and the parks for passerines. As it is not going to be a...

October in the Julian Alps at Kranjska Gora, Slovenia

Good going, BobTag! Shame about the Rock Partridge, but I see you've had quite an array of other good species. The Partridges will wait for you :)

    Yelkouan Shearwater

The Free Dictionary (probably not the most trustworthy of references) narrows down the meaning of Levant even further:"The countries bordering on the eastern Mediterranean Sea from Turkey to Egypt." I agree that Levantine gives a better, albeit slightly incomplete (Italy holds the most breeding...

    Bannerman's Shearwater

Bannerman's is a "good" species according to Austin, J. J., Bretagnolle, V. & Pasquet, E. (2004): A global molecular phylogeny of the small Puffinus shearwaters and implications for systematics of the Little-Audubon's Shearwater complex. Auk 121: 847 - 864. Their taxonomy was also adopted by...

    Yelkouan Shearwater

Rather than being informative, Levantine Shearwater is quite misleading. The term Levant denotes a large portion of the Middle East: bounded by the Taurus Mountains in the north, the Mediterranean in the west, the Arabian Desert in the south and Mesopotamia in the east. The countries of the...

    Warbler ID, Slovenia

Good, just as I told him. My only concern was the notched tail. Thanks, Bob!

    Warbler ID, Slovenia

I was sent this picture by a friend. Unfortunately, I don't have any additional details ... What are your thoughts?

    Costa Blanca birds 2

The call description fits Zitting Cisticola (Fan-tailed Warbler) very well. It's difficult to judge the bird's appearance from the attached picture, but it could well be a Zitting Cisticola (even though I can't be absolutely certain).

Wanted: Recommendation for hotel/appartment in Croatia..

Roh-VEEN Ignore the "j", it's there merely for ortographic reasons - the difference in pronunciation of "n" and "nj" at the end of a word is minute at best.
