    Juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk

    A juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk perched on a backyard fence adjoining Langenheim Park near mid-town Tulsa, Oklahoma. This is one a pair that was born on the roof of a nearby 10 story bank building. He regularly hunts this small urban park for Blue Jays and Robins that are abundant.

    Wicke shot Raul. Even with perfect light to freeze them in action would make the shadows too dark. It may not seem to the naked eye but they are actually very quick in their movements. Incredible the acrobatics that they make look so mundane.

    Jeff Hopkins has guessed that the juveniles were Red-Shouldered Hawks based on their coloring. I had seen the adults flying amongst the trees and thought they were Red-Tails. It turns out that he was correct after all.
