    E Norfolk - 3 to ID please

Thanks for quick replies. I'm kicking myself over the golden plover - short beak - big eyes. I'll know it next time! I was hoping the third was a redstart - another first for me. Thanks again. Liz.

    E Norfolk - 3 to ID please

These pics were taken a few days ago at Winterton. I'm struggling to ID from books, but I think the first is ruff and the second wheatear. The third was taken from a long way off - hand holding my brand new camera (somewhat shakily). The bird first caught my eye when it was flying between the...

    Today at the feeder

1 big brown rat underneath sunflower (hearts) feeder! Any suggestions on how to stop it returning? I don't want to stop feeding the birds. Cburrier1...welcome to forum.....you should introduce yourself in the "say hello" section. I see you've got white-crowned sparrows at your feeder. Did you...

    Red Breasted Goose

I spotted this Red Breasted Goose on the River Yare, near Norwich, last Sunday. It was with a group of Greylags. I believe it's not very common in England but is it rare enough to have notified anyone - and if so, who?

    Another Plover(?) ID

As I suspected, I was completely wrong. I was looking in wrong part of guide. It's easy for you experienced guys but at least we novices have plenty of "firsts"! Thanks for responses. Liz.

    Another Plover(?) ID

Please ID these birds for me. 6 of them were flying around in unison over the river Yare near Brundall in Norfolk - last Friday evening. They settled on the opposite bank but as it was getting dark this is the best picture that I could manage. I've looked in my Collins and I think they are a...

    What did I see?

Hey - I didn't mean to start a row, but thanks for all the interest. The dark blue of the juv. bullfinch matches better than the indigo bunting - except that I didn't notice blue in the tail and the brown was a lot darker. It was in the shade - so I suppose it would have appeared darker than in...

    What did I see?

It would be lovely to think my bird was one, but I had discounted Indigo Bunting because Collins states that it's rare in UK. Do you really think mine could be one? I agree that the blue panel was certainly very striking. Liz

    What did I see?

jforgham... It was still sat on the road as I was almost level. I couldn't watch it any more as I had to watch the road ahead. Clouseau... That's the nearest likeness I've seen so far, but I don't remember the tail being that long. Also, the blue was in the area I've circled. What is this...

    What did I see?

Definitely not a hawfinch. It's main colouring was dark brown - which made me think it was a sparrow. I'm not sure if it was the primaries or secondaries that were dark blue in colour. I just remember saying to myself "that was pretty" & made a mental note to look it up when I got home. I...
