    A rather strange view of this common insect. It was "puddling" in some damp earth by the front steps. Caught this odd shot when the sun suddenly went behind a dark cloud and the flash went off.

    These little jewels are all over the meadow on sunny days. (Don't know what the tiny insect is above the butterfly!)

    A first for me. Pretty little butterfly. Behaves like the hairstreaks to which it is related. Wings held together over back, and it continuously rubs its hindwings together as it feeds. Interesting.

    I think this is the pipevine swallowtail, but have doubts because this species is not supposed to occur this far north. Any help appreciated.

    the lilac bushes are nearly in bloom, but not quite, so the tiger swallowtails in my yard made do with apple blossom nectar.

    There can't be anything more frustrating than trying to digiscope warblers! They are so darned quick! I am going to keep trying until I get a good one.
