    Song Sparrow Nest?

I think this is a Song Sparrow nest. I found it this morning right outside my kitchen window! I noticed a bird flying in and out of the bush so I got up for a closer look and sure enough I could barely make out the little babies moving around in there. I grabbed my camera and snapped off a few...

Canada Geese - One adult, One gosling missing!

Hi everyone! I haven't posted lately, but I've been pretty worried today about a family of Canada Geese that I've been watching since 5/7/09. We have a pond at the edge of the parking lot where I work and on the 7th a family of Canada Geese took residence in it. There were 6 goslings and the...

    Barred Owl

Hi everyone, as my user name states my name is Mandy and while I'm not new here I haven't posted in quite some time. My interest in birds has continued to be strong, in fact it's getting stronger and stronger with each day. Today, I've come here looking for some Barred Owl advice / info. It all...

    Another ID needed!

Thanks for the feedback on the Heron everyone. Are these birds rare overall or just rare in my area? It looksl like I've got a little bit of reading to do to learn about this new sighting!! :) It's kind of funny because I almost didn't take these pictures. I originally thought it was a...

    Another ID needed!

Hi everyone, I have a couple more birds that I'm looking to get IDs for. Both of these were seen off the coast of New Hampshire (USA) last month. I originally thought that the first bird was a Great Blue Heron, but after doing some photo comparisons it appears as though it's not. This bird has...

    Looking for an ID

Today I went on a whale watch and this cute little bird decided to catch a ride on the boat. I don't know what it is, but it was adorable and it looked so tired! It stayed on the boat for about a half hour or 45 minutes before it flew off. Somone on the boat said it's a Phalarope, but it doesn't...

    Sea Bird ID Needed

This was a very interesting little bird! I was on a whale watch yesterday and while we were still off shore traveling in the direction of home, this little bird flew along side of us and actually landed on the boat! He sat on the wire for a minutes and then he made his way into the pilothouse...

    Can Someone ID This Bird??

Thanks, I was just about positive that it was a Common Loon, but the winter plumage wording in my book made me doubt myself. Thanks again!! :) - Mandy

    Can Someone ID This Bird??

I saw this bird on the way back to the harbor after a whale watch. It was seen roughly between 1/2 -1 mile from shore. It didn't dive or anything like that while I was watching it. It just kind of rested there at the surface. I have a bird book that I looked through and the closest resemblance...

    Looking For ID

I saw this bird on the way back to the Harbor after a whale watch. This bird was seen roughly between 1/2 to 1 mile from the harbor in the North Atlantic Ocean (the Gulf of Maine) to be exact. Any clue what it is??

    Mom and Her Baby

Here is one of my favorite pictures of the day. I just love the composition and the overall feel of this photo. They're such beautiful and graceful birds.

    Mom and Her Babies

Here is what I believe is the mother and her trio of beautiful Cygnets. They started out with six (according to a woman who was there) and now they're down to three. It's sad to think about, but I guess that's nature.
  15. Sleeping Cygnet

    Sleeping Cygnet

On the way home from a local Harbor, we spotted a family of Mute Swans. We couldn't resist the urge to stop for a few quick pictures. This is when we first got there. There were three Cygnets total and all were sound asleep.
