    Looking for new tripod

BrianB, Beware that the 700RC is rated to support a maximum of 5.5 pounds while the 128RC is rated at 8.9 pounds. The 128RC may weigh 1 pound more, but it provides better support for your equipment. The plate locking lever just broke on my Manfrotto 501 and I am replacing it with a 128RC (I...

    Signing a photo

DOC, I'm glad it worked for you. To get a larger banner size, you can either create the brush with a larger font to begin with, or select the existing brush, increase the brush size, and then place the banner on the photo. Mark

If you use Photoshop you can check out Andy Bright's page: http://www.digiscoped.com He just updated the look of his site. Go to "Enter The Digiscoping Method", then on the bottom right is a link for Photoshop. Towards the bottom of that page are instructions about how to create a copyright...

    Osprey Couple

This was the first pair of osprey in the Kensington Metropark reintroduction program to hatch a chick. Used a LensPlus 2Plus Adapter, set the camera lens to around 200mm, and set the eyepiece to around 40x. This was one of my first attempts to photograph with an SLR and a spotting scope.

Can you digiscope with an Olympus 740?

Martin, You may be able to use that camera for digiscoping, but there would be some limitations. 1. You would need to find the correct adapter to use or possibly manufacture your own. 2. You should try it by only using the digital zoom feature. You may have problems using an adapter with...

    Manfrotto 441 v 443 - advice requested!

Regarding a levelling bubble, I believe that a lot of tripod heads have one built in (for example, I'm fairly sure the Manfrotto 501 video head that quite a few people use for digiscoping has a levelling bubble built into it's base). So, even if you get a 443 without a levelling bubble...

Anyone any ideas what is causing this

Jane, I have had this happen on a site or two before. Do you have Norton Internet Security installed on your computer? I have NIS 2004, and there are two things you can do: 1. Turn Privacy Control Off 2. Leave Privacy Control on, but go to the configuration and set a "Custom Level" for...

    Humpback whales

Tim, There are grizzlies in Denali - you can usually see them from the buses that take you into the park. We saw only one, but it came right over the road fairly close to our bus (it walked right in front of another bus). The place to go for grizzly viewing is Katmai National Park...

    Swaro -Coolpix 4500 adaptor Help

Graham, When I spoke to the person from Swarovski, he told me that the Swarovski adapter (DCA) fits the new S-type eyepieces. It does not matter whether you use the old AT/ST scopes or the new ATS/STS scopes, only that you use the newer eyepieces. The newer eyepieces will work with the older...

    Swaro -Coolpix 4500 adaptor Help

Paul, I spoke with a management person from Swarovski this morning (he called me), and he confirmed that the eyecup should screw off. He asked me to send my eyepiece in to them, and they will either repair it or send me a new one, so I will be functional at some point in the near future. This...

    New Swarovski zoom

I spoke to a management person from Swarovski this morning and he confirmed that the new 20-60x Zoom eyepiece will work with the older AT80 scopes. He said the difference is that the older eyepieces came either with or without a locking mechanism on the eyepiece. The new eyepieces do not have...

    Swaro -Coolpix 4500 adaptor Help

Paul, I have the older model AT80-HD and 20-60x Zoom locking eyepiece. I am looking at the same issue as you regarding the rubber eyecup on the eyepiece. I spoke with someone at Swarovski this morning, and they said that on the older zoom eyepieces, the rubber eyecup is glued on. Therefore...
