    Derbyshire County Birding

Hi Martin (Just posted this on the Derbyshire email group, but it's not appeared yet) What’s the situation usually with the gulls at Foremark in the mornings? I seem to remember someone mentioning (when the Franklins was around) that they have mostly all disappeared by first light, but is this...

    The Autumn is Over..

Alan, surely it can be narrowed down further than that - "Large Seabird sp, almost certainly rare" No chance in me getting to the east coast tomorrow, but i've a mate who's currently at Filey for the week - he's been alerted (he doesn't have a pager) and will be out early doors.

    Clumber Park

We had a single Honey Buzzard from the Welbeck watchpoint last weekend (22/5). Middle of the day would be best, but the weather over the next few days doesn't look ideal, best wait for a still sunny day for your best chance of seeing raptors. Also at least 7 Common Buzzards in the same area. Mike

    Leicestershire and Rutland Birding/Local Patches

OK, having just done a bit of internet research, the "hybrid" bird in question is actually a Ringed Teal Callonetta leucophrys. It was in the weeds on the left as you look over Manton Bridge. Here's a pic (hopefully!) Cheers Mike

    Leicestershire and Rutland Birding/Local Patches

Ruddy Shelduck at Rutland Water Ruddy Shelduck on LIII from Shoveler hide this morning (but no sign of the RN Phal). Does anyone who watches Rutland regularly know if this is a resident bird? It seems a little early to be from one of the European feral populations to me. Also a wierd hybrid...

    BBC Twitching Documentary

Q I'm not sure i would think it was "amazing". Recent "big ticket" wildlife / nature documentories, with or without Sir David, have left me pretty cold. As an example, the recent Birds of Paradise documentary (with Attenborough) was quite dissapointing, mainly due to the overuse of incidental...

    Nottinghamshire Birding

Hi Dan Sorry, i missed this post yesterday. If you look at a map, the villages of Newton and Haceby are on a loop of road to the south of the A52. We first saw the RLB from the pull off at the SW corner of this loop, looking eastwards. We then saw it from opposite the Old Post House in Newton...

    Nottinghamshire Birding

I've been to Budby twice since mid Feb and only very briefly heard a single bird on both occasions. Numbers seem to have dwindled in the last few years - there were much fewer last year then the years before. No Stonechats either. Mike

    Nottinghamshire Birding

Still there Dan. Me & Steve had prolonged, if distant, views this afternoon. Loads of Common Buzzards in the area, including one with a very pale patch on its rump, so beware! Red Kite also present. Mike
