If you were to buy a Canon DSLR on an extreme budget...

Well there are some nice new bridge cameras coming out now with 1" sensors and 600mm equivelent zoom lenses so by next year they may well be available under your $1,000 secondhand.

If you were to buy a Canon DSLR on an extreme budget...

I have only rather skimmed this thread so may get things a bit wrong but I have both Canon gear and Olympus mft. A few random thoughts. One downside to all the present mft is poor C-AF even with the EM-1 so if BIF is your thing forget mft. The Panasonic 100-300 is a bit soft. Start adding the...

Canon 100-400 Mk2 Zoom Adjustment Ring

Same for me, just tight on the resistance.

    Lightweight lens

I have the 7D mkII and use it with the 100-400 mk II and it is a superb combination plus it will autofocus well with the 1.4 converter (centre point + four helper points) with little effect on image quality. The IS is very good and worth having making handheld shots straightforward. In the past...

    Canon help please.

Have you given the contacts on both lens and body a good clean? Lots of people recommend an eraser but I have read somewhere this can damage the contacts so have used a microfibre cloth with a little glasses cleaning cleaner (bought at Specsavers) sprayed on the cloth not the contacts directly...

    Canon help please.

I presume you have checked the switch on the lens has not been knocked to MF?

    OM-D EM-1/Zuiko ED 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO w/1.4 Tele....BIF?

I would love to know the answers to your question too. Just in case you missed it Olympus have now got firmware 3.0 out for the EM-1 which is supposed to improve C-AF and makes C-AF available in H continuous mode up to 9fps so hopefully that might help.

Canon 7D Mk II is announced and available for pre-order

That's awful what with all the reports of focussing problems and now this the 7D II goes right on the back burner as far as my possible purchases until Canon have sorted their QC out.

Worth it to have a Full Frame camera?

Might be worth noting that several sites like Amazon now list the 6D as discontinued so if you want one there should shortly be a price drop then they will become unobtainable new.

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM

I bought one many years ago to replace my original 75-300 mkI from the film days which was rather soft and had no IS. The 70-300 DO was better with a decent IS and there was no real alternative in those days. Eventually my DO stopped focussing and I bought a 70-300L for about the same price as a...

    100-400 replacement

One of those is definitely on my wish list. Fingers, toes, legs and arms all crossed. Bet price will be at least 2K though.

    7d + 100-400

Definitely sounds like a send away and get repaired job I am afraid.

    7d + 100-400

I would put the camera + lens on a tripod and shoot a static target and see what the resulting shots are like focussing manually (with the IS off) using the live-view. If the result is still poor then something has happened to the lens itself as focussing errors have been eliminated. If the...

    Which medium zoom ?

Recently my 70-300 DO died so I looked for a replacement. My son had bought the Canon 70-200 f4 (none IS) and I soon realized that this lenses IQ was in a different league to the DO. I then considered the 70-200 f4 IS which is even sharper but considered that if I wanted a longer focal length I...
