7x43 ED3's - Have you pulled the trigger ?
Am I the only one who received the 7x43 ED3? It's been almost 3 weeks since I received my pair and I'm surprised that no one else has commented on theirs. I'd especially like to know if the excellent sweet spot on mine is typical, or if I just lucked out. Any comments? -

Center field sharpness didn't seem any different to me. But this is very subjective unless you use charts etc. which I didn't do. The depth of field is greater with the 7s but this is to be expected. Again the extreme eye relief of the 7s is a factor. With the 8s I just extend the eye cups all... -

Received the 8x43 ED3s and did a side by side comparison with my 7x43 ED3. The eye relief is definitely less with the 8x43s. (and better for non eyeglasses users). However overall I prefer the view with the 7x43s. sharper at the edges with less light fall off, and they just seemed to have an... -

Yes, that is what I've been doing with binoculars with long eye relief and you are right it does help. I just ordered a pair of 8x43 ED3 for no logical reason at all. I just want them. -

To my eyes the sweet spot appears very wide. Maybe 80%. But the overall image is so excellent that you just see this nice clear view and are not distracted by any possible out of focus area--at least I'm not. -

I spoke to Charles before ordering these and he said the play in the focusing mechanism had been corrected in all models, and indeed there is no play at all in my pair. I could see no problems with them at all other than the eye relief. -

ED FL shootout
Hi Rich, Keep in mind that you are comparing 10 power binoculars (Zeiss 10x42 FL) with 8.5 power binoculars (Swift 820 ED), which is not a fair comparison. Ten power binoculars, no matter how excellent, will have less depth of field and often less field of view than the lower power glasses. A...- moman

Thank you Kimmo, I already sent the binoculars back. Even if this test showed good collimation, there was still a problem with the binoculars--not a very easy view, and areas of soft focus surrounded by sharp areas (astigmatism?). Your test for collimation will be used in the future. Incidently...
